Cyrillic · An alphabet: vowels and consonants are letters of equal standing.

Thirty-one letters. Macedonian adds Ѓ, Ќ, Ѕ, Љ, Њ and Џ, and writes every sound with one letter — there are no digraphs and no silent letters, so a word is said exactly as it is spelled.

Now read something in it

The letters are the smaller half. The 10,000 commonest Macedonian words are where they start meaning something.

Cyrillic is also used for Russian, Ukrainian and Bulgarian. The letters mostly carry over; a handful do not.

Reading it is one thing.

Being understood when you say it is another. That takes a person.
